GRAIN
Film emulation
Digital sensors clip highlights hard and hold colour in a way film never did. Film emulation presets put back what the stock did on its own: a shoulder on the highlights, grain that sits in the midtones, and colour that drifts rather than saturates.
Grain is the giveaway. Amounts under 15 read as sensor noise on a phone screen; 25–45 is where it looks like 35mm at a normal print size. Every recipe on this page publishes its grain amount and size, so you can match a pack to the output you actually print at.
