Portrait grading lives or dies in the orange channel. Push saturation globally and skin goes waxy; pull it and everyone looks ill. These presets do their colour work on the orange band specifically, leaving the rest of the frame alone.
Check the HSL block before you buy: a portrait look should move orange hue and luminance by single digits, not twenty. If you shoot a different camera than the creator did, expect to nudge white balance a few hundred Kelvin — the recipe tells you the starting point.
